Bjørn Heine Strand, has a background in biostatistics, life-course epidemiology and ageing and holds a position as senior Scientist at The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH).He is associate professor at the University of Oslo, Department of community medicine and senior scientist at The Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Ageing and Health (Ageing and Health) where he is involved in projects related to dementia. The main focus of his research has been on social inequalities in health and ageing. Strand is leading the research group; The Tromsø Ageing Study, and is in charge of the data collection on physical function in the 7th data collection wave of the Tromsø Study. He is a member of the expert group on social inequalities in health established by the Norwegian Directorate of Health, and is on the board of The Norwegian Epidemiological Association and The Norwegian Association of Ageing Research.
Strand has been leading author on papers in top medical and epidemiological peer-reviewed journals such as British Medical Journal, Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, American Journal of Epidemiology and The International Journal of Cancer.
