David Lovejoy Macquarie University, Australia

Dr Lovejoy is an experienced biomedical researcher and medicinal chemist. He has highly relevant experience in drug development and has successfully commercialised drug technology. He previously worked on a new range of anti-cancer drugs designed to perturb cellular iron metabolism and published 35 papers in this field. He recently joined Macquarie University as part of the establishment of a new neuroscience research program, initiating new drug discovery projects in this field and developing extensive expertise in the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan metabolism. His current research interests include development of enzyme inhibitors of the kynurenine pathway, exploring the potential of kynurenine pathway metabolites to be biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease and exploring the links between iron metabolism, the kynurenine pathway and neurodegenerative disease.
