Jae Chul Yoo, MD, PhD Seoul, Republic of Korea
Dr. Jae Chul Yoo went to Northwestern University in USA for Premedicine and graduated from Korea University Medical School in 1994. He has done his Orthopedic training in Korea University Medical Center and military training as Medical Officer until 2002. He then underwent a fellowship in knee and shoulder arthroscopy and sports medicine for one year under Dr. Jin Hwan Ahn and Dr. Seungho Kim. From then on, he pursued shoulder surgery in Eulji University hospital for two years and moved to Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University where he works now as a Professor. During this time, he did a one year study in Orthopedic Biomechanical Lab in UC Irvine under professor Thay Q. Lee. He also did several travelling fellowships to Europe and the USA. During his 14 years of practice as shoulder surgeon, arthroscopy and sports medicine were key fields which he pursued. During that time, he has published more than 100 domestic and international papers. He is an active member in the Korean shoulder and elbow society, corresponding member of American Shoulder and Elbow Society, and a member of European Shoulder and Elbow Society (SECEC). Also, he is active in sports medicine society and arthroscopy societies in both in Korea and USA. In addition, he is an active member of ISAKOS. Currently he is the secretary general of Korean shoulder and Elbow Society (KSES). His current study focus is on subscapularis tendon tears, for which he won the best poster paper in AAOS 2012 for his classification and anatomic study. This was done in UC Irvine cadaver lab under Thay Q. Lee, PhD. Also, currently he is giving many lectures all over the world. He is involved in many projects of shoulder arthroplasty and arthroscopic devices. He is also actively participating as team doctor for volleyball and ice-hockey teams.
