Sam Ghebrai Western University Ontario, Canada

Sam Ghebrai recently completed their PhD in Sociology at Western University in London, Ontario. For their dissertation, Sam examined court decisions, tribunal decisions, and correctional policies to interrogate how sex—as a social and legal category—is used to challenge trans rights and erase trans identities from public spaces. By exposing how these ideas are upheld in law and society, Sam highlights some structural barriers to gender self-determination. Sam’s work joins an array of scholarship calling for us to rethink how sex and gender are regulated beyond legal systems and into everyday life.
