Sky Marsen, PhD, has an educational background in Communication and Linguistics, and approaches business communication from a linguistic perspective. She has researched and taught organizational communication, professional writing and strategic communication internationally, including in the United Sates, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Australia. Her research interests include how language is used in professional contexts, how organizations manage crisis and solve problems, and how popular culture perceives business and technological practices. In addition to her academic work, she advises professionals and scientists on communicating with the public. For example, she has advised business clients at IBM and scientists at Caltech on writing for the public. She has published books and articles in various areas of professional communication, including narrative theory, semiotics, and crisis management. She is currently a Faculty member at Flinders University, Australia, and Director of the Media and Communication program.
