Macy Brammer Brown University, RI, USA

Macy Brammer is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology at Brown University, as well as a predoctoral trainee at the Population Studies and Training Institute and a doctoral student affiliate at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform. Broadly speaking, her research interests lie at the intersection of education, family, work, and gender. In her work, she aims to integrate sociological theory into our practical understanding of everyday social activity such as parenting and teaching. Her current project uses quantitative time use data to analyze time spent caring for one's own children among for parents who also perform paid, highly interactive care work such as teaching, healthcare, and social services. She is also particularly interested in the case of teachers, including how they come into the profession and whether they choose to stay, as well as how they experience and perform emotion and care in the context of schools.
