The Journal of Sandwich Structures and Materials (JSM) is dedicated to advancing the science, engineering, and technology of sandwich structures and related lightweight multifunctional structural systems.
The journal provides a leading platform for high-quality original research and review articles addressing the fundamental, computational, experimental, manufacturing, and applied aspects of sandwich structural systems across aerospace, mechanical, civil, marine, automotive, energy, biomedical, and emerging engineering applications.
JSM covers a broad range of sandwich structural systems, including:
• Classical sandwich structures
• Honeycomb sandwich structures
• Foam-core sandwich structures
• Cellular, lattice, and truss-core sandwich structures
• Functionally graded and hybrid sandwich systems
• Smart and multifunctional sandwich systems
• Metallic and composite sandwich structures
• Layered and bonded sandwich structural systems
• Sustainable and lightweight engineering systems
The journal welcomes research in, but not limited to, the following areas:
• Structural mechanics, stability, and dynamic behaviour
• Failure, fracture, fatigue, impact, and damage mechanics
• Adhesive bonding, interfaces, delamination, and repair
• Energy absorption and crashworthiness
• Experimental mechanics and structural characterization
• Manufacturing, joining, and processing technologies
• Computational mechanics, multiscale modelling, and simulation
• Advanced numerical methods, including isogeometric, and meshfree methods
• Data-driven modelling, optimization, machine learning, and digital twins
• Structural health monitoring and intelligent structures
• Thermal, acoustic, and multifunctional performance
Papers representing only incremental developments, routine parametric studies, or limited applications of established methods without substantial new insight may not be considered for publication.
Authors are encouraged to clearly highlight the novelty, significance, and broader impact of their work in the cover letter accompanying submission.
All submissions must be written in clear and professional English and will undergo rigorous peer review to ensure the highest scientific and ethical standards.
