A good text covering the main theoretical traditions and approaches toward individual therapy. Good structure of each chapter with guide to assessment; goal setting; treatment; evaluation of each approach. A very useful tool that would transition with students from academic learning to practice.
There isn't too much I can say about this book that hasn't already been said. A masterwork of clarity and energy. Combining clear historical perspective with insight and in-depth reasoning, this work is motivatonal and informing whilst avoiding the 'cliches' and over simplification of lesser works.
A clear and comprehensive introduction to the broad range of talking cures that are offered in the UK today. Each chapter covers a specific therapeutic approach and helpfully covers the historical context and development, the main theoretical assumptions, which clients will benefit most and the strengths and limitations of the approach. Each chapter also includes a research section summarising the relevant research findings, an in-depth Case Study illustrating how that approach works in practice, and an extended Practice section. A useful resource for social work students and psychology students.
This book offers the student different perspectives in therapy, and supports them in skill acquisition. The text orientates them to the various psychological approaches and treatments and allows them to increase their repertoire of therapeutic skills, adding to their psychological 'tool kit'.
Good to revise a range of models and useful on an integrative course
Always a good book to recommend as the chapters have case studies and are written by actual practitioners of these approaches
This is a useful resource that provides the reader with introductions to most of the main therapies in use today. The new chapter on mindfulness is a welcome addition. The links between theories and practice throughout the book are a useful resource to demystify approaches for health care students. A good resource for anyone interested in finding out more about different therapies
clearly written and engaging
This book offers a sound review of many therapeutic modalities and philosophies. It is a useful book for postgraduate students who are studying to become therapists and I would recommend it as reading to such students.
This book has been so useful for giving an overview of different theories and interventions. Students have used it for two assignements and they particularly like the critical and research element of each chapter. As a tutor it is brilliant for preparation and developing classromm activities.
