Kathleen J. Fitzgerald
Kathleen J. Fitzgerald, PhD, is a teaching professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research and teaching interests are in social stratification; specifically, race/ethnicity, gender, and sexuality. She is the author of Recognizing Race and Ethnicity: Power, Privilege, and Inequality, 3rd ed. (2020); and Beyond White Ethnicity: Developing a Sociological Understanding of Native American Identity Reclamation (2007); in addition to numerous journal articles. She has been teaching the sociology of inequalities for over 26 years. Fitzgerald earned all her degrees in sociology: her PhD from the University of Missouri, her MA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and her bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University.
